Our news partners at The Seattle Times are reporting that the SPD drop-in location at 23rd and Union suffered its second violent attack within a week when a man and woman broke out three windows with a sledgehammer:

« At least four witnesses called 911 just before 11:30 p.m. Sunday to report hearing loud thuds as two people swung sledgehammers at the windows of the substation at the corner of 23rd Avenue and East Union Street, said police spokesman Jeff Kappel. »

The suspects were spotted near 25th & Cherry, ID’d by the witnesses, and arrested for felony malicious mischief.

Last week protesters left anti-cop graffiti on the building following the California verdict against a police officer who shot and killed an unarmed man.

    The communique:

    « R.I.P. Oscar Grant

On Friday night, we attacked an unmarked police car parked in the Seabright neighborhood, slashing all of its tires & breaking 4 of its windows. The message left on the car, « RIP Oscar », speaks for more than one victim of police violence, but for all of us who suffer under a police state.

A Chicago police officer working a detail dedicated to addressing youth violence was shot and killed when a man grabbed the officer’s gun and shot him outside a police building in the Englewood neighborhood.

The officer was leaving the facility at 61st Street and Racine Avenue about 3:45 p.m. and was walking to a parking lot when he got into a struggle with a 24-year-old man who disarmed the officer and shot him, Assistant Supt. James Jackson said.

The man then tried to rob someone at gunpoint a short distance away, Jackson said. Officers from the facility heard shots and exchanged gunfire with the suspect and shot him, Jackson said.

Preliminary reports say the officer was shot in the head.

The suspect was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where a group of uniformed and plainclothes officers stood outside the entrance of the emergency room this evening.

Graffiti contre la police dans Chicago (12 juillet)

An alderman was notified after graffiti that reportedly said « we kill police » was found on a building in the South Loop Monday, police said.

Someone apparently complained and Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) was notified when the graffiti was found Monday on the building at 1234 S. Michigan Ave., according to a Central District police lieutenant.

The writing, which reportedly said “we kill police’’ looked faded, and the word ‘police’ was barely visible, according to the lieutenant.

The writing was going to be removed, according to the lieutenant who said the writings did not appear to be recent.

The alderman was not immediately available early Tuesday.

    RINDGE, N.H. —

Police in the town of Rindge are asking for the public’s help in solving a rash of vandalism cases in the area. The incidents range from simple pranks to destruction of property, and lately the vandals have turned to an unusual target — the police.Residents said they are getting tired of the vandalism, which has included pranks such as throwing toilet paper around the town common to more serious acts such as thousands of dollars of damage done to a vacant office building. »It’s not very impressive, » said resident Marie Pugh. « My kids have to grow up here, and they don’t need to be seeing that. »But lately, the vandals have been going after the police. Officials said that in the past several weeks, police cars have been wrapped in plastic and splashed with paint, and some have had their tires slashed. »One officer’s personal vehicle was entered and his seat belts were cut, (along with) other vandalism to his car, » said Officer David Blake.Police said they suspect the acts are the work of local youth, but no arrests have been made.

A Philadelphia police officer has been shot in the leg in the 3000 block of Water Street in North Philadelphia.

Officer Kevin Livewell, a 9-year veteran from the 24th district, was transported to Temple Hospital and is in stable condition.

Mayor Nutter was talking live outside of Temple Hospital after visiting with the wounded cop.

Mayor Nutter said that the 30 year old father of two was doing well. He reiterated that, « we are fortunate he survived this attack by two individuals. »

At approximately 8:30PM Officer Livewwell and his partner were on patrol in the 3000 block area of Water St. The officers spotted a white van which fit the description of a van that was used in a crime earlier in the afternoon. When the officers stopped the van and exited their vehicles, they were immediately fired upon with assault-like weapons. The officers returned fire. Several weapons were recovered at the scene including 2 assault weapons and hand guns.

Right now, there is a search on for one, if not two suspects. Police are also saying that one suspect is in custody.

bravo!
